“Being beautiful goes hand in hand with respect for our planet and animals.” An Interview with Canoe Slalom Champion Camille Prigent

ALL TIGERS supports HOPe, the sports media collective that airs through various episodes the (extra)ordinary career paths of 12 young athletes who practice sports that receive little media attention and dream of going for the gold at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024.

After our interview with the fencer Manon Brunet, the ALL TIGERS team met up with Camille Prigent, HOPe athlete and 1st place winner of the world rowing under 23 championship.

So, tell us about yourself!

My name is Camille Prigent and I’m a high-level sportswoman in canoe slalom. I’ve been practicing it since I was 9 years old and have always been involved in the world of canoeing, since my parents are both canoe champions themselves.

I’m incredibly passionate about it; I love the rush of being on the water and the moments shared with other canoeists when we’re out on the banks. Plus, I love how much this sport has allowed me to travel. I’m also a middle school gym teacher.

When do you feel like you’re “queen of the jungle?”

I love to take part in competitions, so it's always a joy for me to be able to demonstrate my skills on the water during these moments. I feel like a queen when I’m moving fast on the water, using my surroundings as best I can to navigate my boat and glide it forward.

My crew is made up of three of my friends who also canoe. They are amazing, and I’m so lucky to have such funny, positive, and lively friends! I also have tons of friends both within and outside the world of canoeing that I adore.

Who is the ultimate Tiger for you?

My mom. She’s so strong in everything she does, and she’s always so optimistic.

What makes you bare your claws?

When something unexpected slows me down in my busy schedule. I’m not very patient... Otherwise, the thing I cannot stand is injustice.

Natural, vegan, cruelty-free: does that make you roar with pleasure?

Yeah, I love getting dolled up, but it needs to go hand in hand with respect for our planet and animals.

What does lipstick mean to you?

I wear it rarely, since I’ve two to three training sessions per day so I don’t have many occasions to wear make-up. But when I do, I think it’s really pretty, and it helps shake up the athletic look a bit.

Do you have a favorite lipstick or nail lacquer color?

I love the burgundy for lips as well as nails. And I like having a matte lipstick!

There you have it, you’re now a Tiger! What’s your motto?

Crazy Tiger !

Thank you, Camille!
